Outreach Programs for Cleveland's Westside and Ohio City
St. Paul’s Community Outreach was founded in March 2005 by St. Paul’s Community Church, United Church of Christ (UCC) as a 501(c)(3) organization to continue and expand upon the church’s 50-year history of outreach and ministry on the near-west side of Cleveland. The Community Outreach Program functions independently of the church with its own board, budget and executive director.

Our mission is to assist and encourage individuals in-need by providing safe space to identify and make positive life choices. Our vision is to provide energy, direction and resources to ensure that all people in our neighborhood can realize their full potential.
Our Outreach Program's primary component is a multi-layered Drop-in Center - a place of hospitality and assistance. It is open Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. - serving an average of 60 men and women each day when open. Individuals come to us for help, advice, counseling and a place away from the street where they can relax in a safe environment. An Outreach Program Manager and Administrative/Medical Assistant along with our Medical Response Team and a growing number of volunteers are ready each day to provide access to the following free services: medical information; food pantry supplies; clothing distribution (including new socks, underwear and boots in the winter); bus tickets; vouchers for birth certificates and IDs; telephone usage; and referrals to employment opportunities, housing, drug/addiction treatment programs, mental health and other medical services, legal aid, job search support, life skills training and other social services as needed.
Our Medical Response Team is in-place daily to respond to the many medical needs that frequently go unmet for members of this population. This includes foot exams (cleaning and free socks and shoes), health screenings, HIV/AIDS prevention, testing and care referral, diabetes screening. diet management and emergency care for needs such as bruises, scrapes and burns. While this type of emergency care may seem minor in nature, it will frequently prevent larger problems such as infections from occurring. This response incorporates a knowledge and understanding of the individual medical needs of the many who frequent our Drop-In Center and enables us to monitor and advise based upon the daily relationships that our team establishes with those who visit us.
